What is Digital Voice?

Digital Voice is an alternative name for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, which deliver voice calls using a broadband or fibre Internet connection.

VoIP services convert analogue audio into digital data that can be sent through your router and Internet connection to the voice call recipient and vice versa.

Digital voice services and VoIP are replacing legacy copper landline phone networks around the country, both in the UK and around the world. Countries such as Germany, Netherlands and Singapore have already made the switch over to Voice over IP networks for their telecoms, with increasingly more countries set to follow.

A digital voice service will usually require a digital voice phone, also known as a VoIP phone, or alternatively a digital phone system app, to allow calls to easily be answered and made. Digital phones come in all shapes and sizes, from PoE (Power over Ethernet) multi-line desk phones, through to portable cordless DECT phones. These phones will meet different usage needs, from busy receptionists fielding a large number of calls to dispatch teams working in all corners of a warehouse.

Our VoIP service provides a digital phone system and digital phone lines to enable higher quality calls than could previously be expected over standard copper landlines. The service is compatible with both digital VoIP phones and virtual landline apps to offer greater versatility for you. The flexible nature of digital voice services mean that phone lines, extensions and business features can all be added and expanded on with relatively little fuss and little expense.
